Selecting your Attic Ladder
When choosing your attic ladder you need to know what type of roof framing your home has:
Conventional - commonly found in older homes, you are able to cut the joists without impacting on the integrity of the roof structure. This means you are able to choose from all available models.
Or
Truss - this type of framing is prevalent in newer homes. The roof structure is pre-fabricated and all manufacturers warranties would be void if altered. As a truss frame when engineered, is not designed to allow for any structural changes without affecting the integrity of the building.
Therefore you must measure between the trusses at either end of the proposed opening, taking the smallest measurement to ensure the ladder will sit nicely between the trusses. This means that you can only choose from either the Attic master, Attic Studio or Upgrade model within the range.
